Phthalates (fragrance)
What are they? - A group of synthetic chemicals used to make scents last a long time. They are also used as plasticizers to make plastic softer. You'll find them in a broad range of personal care products and cosmetics, often disguised on ingredients labels as “fragrance.”
Why avoid them? - Studies have linked phthalates with cancer, developmental and reproductive toxicity, endocrine disruption, neurotoxicity, neurodevelopmental disorders, toxicity of the brain, kidneys, liver and lungs, and birth defects. They are also toxic in the environment.
Who's at risk? - Everyone-----According to a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, detectable levels of phthalates were found in every person tested. Children and women of childbearing age seem to be at the greatest risk, but there's no reason for any of us to be at risk when there are phthalate-free options like Lilypure Essentials! Our products smell wonderful, but we use only pure essential plant oils to create our scents, never any synthetic chemicals.
